26º Aniversary Gagauzia autonomy

On December 23rd, the 26th anniversary of the creation of the autonomy of Gagauzia was celebrated. On this day in 1994, the Moldovan Parliament approved a special legal status for Gagauzia (Gagauz Yeri) which granted some independence and privileges to the region. Ethnic and identity conflicts erupted after the fall of the Soviet Union, and Gagauzia was fortunate to be able to reach a peaceful settlement. In other places they cannot say the same, such as neighbouring Transnistria.
