Gagauz Tales - Cazaclia
Oral tradition is a fundamental pillar of every culture. It is a tool of communication, of identification. Oral tradition is formed by cultural expressions that are transmitted from generation to generation with the purpose of disseminating knowledge and experiences to new generations. It is part of the intangible heritage of a community and can be manifested through different spoken forms, such as folk songs, stories, myths, legends, poetry, etc.
Folk tales are interesting in many ways. They don’t only have a moral, but also a context. When the story was told? With what purpose? When and why it has been retold to new generations? While the moral is the same the purpose changes, and that gives a new dimension to the tale in each generation. This video contains one of many Gagauz popular tales we will be compiling and sharing to get to show more about Gagauz culture.
